Precise and compelling communication is the heart of individual or collective success.
The language you choose to present yourself or your organization is essential, no matter how large or small your ambitions. You may want attain new educational credentials; you may want to manage your employees more effectively; you may want to raise money for your organization; you may want to present your research or analyses; you may want to tell your story; you may want to sell a product.
Language is partially fine art. It enables beauty and creativity, and like a painting, the aesthetic qualities of language can evoke emotion and help to tell an artist’s story. But language is also craft: it is both the product of a writer or speaker and the process by which that product takes shape. Simply put, words work.
The technological innovations of the past decades in digital communication have made the functional components of language increasingly important. These often breathtaking technologies might be the most powerful force driving our society—and many cultures around the globe—in terms of economics, politics, relationships, education, and culture. These technologies rely on various computer programming languages that are perhaps the best example of how language can work. The use of languages invented for the express purpose of working has provided us with the speed and efficiency to communicate in ways that would have been unimaginable until recent decades.
But it is also something to be approached with critical thought. In our achievement of such speed and efficiency, is it possible that something has been lost? I believe it has. Because with every act of communication, there is the potential for miscommunication.
Imagine the number of communication acts in a single minute; imagine it among your friends and co-workers; imagine it in your city or state; and then imagine it around the world. You may be able to imagine why miscommunication—and even discommunication (transmitting purposefully erroneous information)—is a growing concern.
I believe in the stunning capacity of words and images, of designs and functions, to inform, sell, question, educate, outrage, and heal. I believe that making decisions about what words to use is one of the most powerful freedoms that we possess as human beings. I believe that every individual and collective should be educated about how to make those decisions. I believe that words work . . . and that Mila can help make your words work successfully.

Often, when an organization says it wants to “communicate better,” it attempts to fix the problem by asking everyone in the organization to communicate more. And often, this results in increased pressure on staff and leadership because they feel they don’t have time for more. Staff morale and productivity may actually suffer as a result of unclear notions of how to “communicate better.” The Real Communication© program is based on the premise that creating a better communication environment is not a matter of more. Rather, creating better results for your company or organization means educating every member of a team to be a better and more efficient communicator.
Whether working with teams or one-on-one with leaders and managers, the Real Communication© program is developed in collaboration with clients to analyze internal communications environments and networks, strategize to improve communications systems and finally, to systematize and implement those changes through education and practice.The Real Communication© program can be offered as a custom-designed seminar, retreat program or series of staff training sessions. Ongoing consulting in improving internal communications is also available.
